BRIGHTER AMERICA YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE
WHAT IS IT: This league will be the only league of its kind and of this magnitude. Our league, unlike any other youth basketball league, will span from Miami, Florida to as far north as Philadelphia, Pa. and as far west as Dallas, Texas. Each host city will have its own BAYBL league for the regular season. Each team is striving to accumulate the most points in their BAYBL city league for their division by winning the most games in the regular season, and most importantly, by community service hours accumulated per team (which has to be documented and signed by the business/location the hours were completed, as well as, the head coach of the team. We will set the point scale at a later date.
OUR VISION/PURPOSE: To provide a mentorship and academically nurturing environment for our boy’s and girl’s aged 5-13 throughout the state and eventually the entire region of the USA! We will use basketball as a tool to teach character, physical wellness, and emphasize scholastic importance to increase amount of youth attending college after high school. Thus, keeping in mind that in order to change the paradigm of our youth, we need to intervene at a very early age and provide guidance away from the persuasion that redirects children to negative behavior. This also gives the children a chance to travel and see other parts of the USA, which could be inspirational career wise and educationally.
EXPECTATIONS AND STANDARDS: All participants have to maintain academic standards that we will set forth. Our plan is to provide academic tutors to assist those who need extra academic assistance, but can’t afford the help. Each team will be provided with 2 tutors to sit with them on a weekly basis throughout the season. Their academic progress will be monitored and reported from their team tutors. SEASON SCHEDULE: The regular season games will be played once a week for a total of 8 weeks. We will take the top teams from each city to come to Tallahassee, Fl. for the playoffs and crown the BAYBL champions! We will have a guest speaker to talk to those kids about importance of education, health and wellness, and goal setting.
WHO DOES THIS BENEFIT- The BAYBL will benefit the players most of all. This league gives youth from an entire region of the USA an outlet for mentoring guidance, educational assistance, leadership and teamwork development opportunities. The host city can appreciate a league like this because it keeps kids out of the streets and into the hands of positive role models. This will not take away from the fun environment that is intended, but will only increase competitiveness to remain part of this special program. As the 5 year olds move up a year, that will open new spots for the following year to bring in new children to mentor. Parents want their child(ren) to be involved with a consistent program annually that develops character and teaches responsibility, and also give their child a chance to travel and compete on a larger level that they can and will be successful.
FUTURE GOALS- WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE the Miami Heat has expressed their interest in becoming partners with ADA to assist with the Miami division of the BAYBLeague. We would like to have a working relationship with the NBA in our efforts to reach youth in the community across the nation. We would love to have NBA teams involved as sponsors for the BAYBLeague of their host city and be involved in the league in some form or fashion (refs, run the clock, coaches, attendance as a fan, etc.). As for the NBA, we would like to see them involved in assisting the cost of travel needed for the playoffs, as well as, the administration of running the BAYBL over such a large area.
